"I received a free copy of the book in exchange for writing a review"
I was very impressed with the book, Browsers, Devices, and Fonts by Gary Rozanc. It's one of those guides that help you from start to finish but doesn't take so much of your time to learn or use. The one thing in particular, which I really enjoyed is the many different programs shared inside the book, to help with creating and evaluating the work being done. The links to each program are all provided. Additionally, there are many very clear and detailed images, demonstrating each step that needs to be performed to get the right outcome. Also, the text which explains the steps being shared in the image is located nearby.
Of course, this book isn't only great for guidance on designing, but it's also packed with tips and suggestions from the author. One of these would be a way to get an idea on the design quality of a page seen through all different devices. This is something that does change when viewing it on a small or larger device, like a phone, computer, and tablets of all sizes. Many times, I've noticed this with many different sites, but to get an idea on how to perfect it on the computer and optimize it to appear appropriately on every device is a wonderful piece of info, all included inside this book. Naturally, this is one reason I know that I would leave a site if its appearance isn't quite pleasant to look at on the device I'm using.
Another issue that the book covers is the loading time, which will make or break a site. Many have those large images, and I must admit, I use to enjoy sharing larger images as well. Though reading about the difficulties it produces when a site tries to load, well that can really cause the site to never be looked upon by the user. So I must say, the author really helped include plenty of ideas to rethink when it comes to the load time.
Accordingly, many like myself will just abandon the site if it doesn't load in a few seconds. Since I want things to load fast, not slow. So, there are no more problems here since this book really covers this information in detail and guides one to create a better page, which will load quicker. He also offers a few great ways to evaluate a page that has been created before submitting it as done.
