"I received a free copy of the book in exchange for writing a review on my blog"
Learning something new is hard, especially without someone showing you how. Honestly, many crafts take time and it doesn't always work out the first time around. However, with the right guide or visual steps in front of you, it can be a piece of cake!
So, with that said, the book I have found super helpful for guiding me, one who really doesn't cross-stitch so often would be Improper Cross-Stitch by Haley Pierson-Cox. Not only was this book super helpful with its visual guidance, the best way to learn in my opinion, but it was filled with enjoyable themes and designs to stitch. The reason for the improper part mentioned in the title of the book well becomes very obvious once you open it. The designs are not your typical cute characters, but instead some more real and possibly relatable to today's style and personality of people in the world.
It sort of makes you smile to see that these books now come out with, using real views of what people would say or want to have in their lives. So to see a cross-stitch book to have the same, well it's quite cool! I don't think I've ever seen anything else, but coloring books with the F-word used. However, it's pretty neat to see it moving on to stitching and other crafting books.
I think the major thing I do enjoy about this book is the freedom of expression and the patterns to help me create each of them. I know many who would rather have these designs from this book than just a typical ordinary embroidery style design. I'm not saying proper is wrong, but I can see this book will shake up the regular and make life a bit more interesting and entertaining.
A few that really caught my eye and I do enjoy would be the Pup Rock, which is cute with a doggy listening to music with a headset. The next would be the cat roasting over the fire a marshmallow and camper in the background. This book is full of cute and different designs, which I love or will love to soon stitch!
In addition to the cute designs to stitch, I love the easy to follow step by step, clear view images, and everything to help you start. This book is perfect for anyone who wants to stitch up something nice for their walls in a frame or on a piece of fabric to sew-up later in another project.
Finally, I found this book to be the most interesting cross-stitch pattern book to enter my home. It's not traditional, it's not old in style and just not proper! However, it is exciting, new and such a fresh change from the traditional designs. Honestly, it's got designs which we can relate to our lives, styles and so much more too!
