Sling Braiding Traditions and Techniques: From Peru, Bolivia, and Around the World by Rodrick Owen and Terry Newhouse Flynn

"I received a free sample in exchange for writing a review on my blog"

The Sling Braiding Traditions and Techniques by Rodrick Owen and Terry Newhouse Flynn is quite a great kit and has many excellent designs to be created inside. I love that the guide is a perfect one for beginners with everything you need to get started is included. However, even experts can find this as a fun guide to create some new and unique designed slings that will catch a ton of attention. Also, the book doesn't just cover a few parts of the world, but a mix of many places around with all sorts of designs.

The best part is that this isn't just a book but the braiding card is included and comes in handy to create these beautiful slings. Plus, when done they can be a used as a great addition to other objects. Also, this book is a great reference to learn how these sling braids were used during the past, in history. How they have been used as weapons in many different periods of time. However, I see them more as a fashionable piece of art that would be a nifty cool item to use as a jewelry, toy or maybe a secret weapon if needed.
Now for the projects and steps, well each is labeled with a beautiful image of the final project. The designs that you want to create or placed on the first part of the page with the title. Afterwards, you have the steps that follow.  The steps are images of using the included board and are easy to follow and yet some can be a bit challenging. This is when it comes to the many more strands you need to use and steps, but other than that it's not bad at all. As mentioned before it's perfect for beginners and can get challenging when you begin adding more strands of colors that can be hard to keep an eye on when braiding. So it will become a bit tedious and harder, though the final sling braids, which there are so many beautiful designs, is well worth the extra steps and strands once completed!

Finally, the book has everything you need, with the tools, history of these brilliant braids used as weapons and all the techniques used to create them. This is not a small book, but a guide that has so much insight into the wonderful uses and designs of sling braids. So with all that said, I really love the entire kit and can't wait to start braiding!
