Foundations of Drawing A Practical Guide to Art History, Tools, Techniques, and Styles by Al Gury

"I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review."

This is a book of history and drawing lessons in one! I think the book really encourages new ideas and focuses on how others created wonderful art. Foundations of Drawings by Al Gury takes you through different times in the world that art was created. How it changed and all the different styles. You then move on to learning about drawing mediums and the tools. It's quite a change from just learning to draw but to gain an idea of how drawing played a role in history and the material as well as ways the images and pieces were created.

You really have so many beautiful pieces and examples to guide you. Plus with the expertise of a professional artist as the author, taking you through it all really does help! The ideas and inspiration are very engaging, I just need to look at a few images and feel inspired to create!

Finally, I really enjoyed this book, it's different and very nicely organized. The lessons you learn are helpful and it's perfect for one who just is starting out and wants the whole story, not just the learn to draw part! Some material, such as texture and lighting, shading is parts I really wanted to learn and that's also inside this book! So honestly, I'm learning what I want and can always get some inspiration from older designs and how to, throughout this book. Plus, I just love the illustrated art on each page, so different and so awesome!
